in the small country town of Forbes during the 1960's. It is located in the central west of New South Wales, Australia. After completing school at the Red Bend Catholic College I moved to Sydney where I worked for the Bank of New South Wales (currently known as Westpac).
Throughout my life I have had questions about the meaning of life, the universe, and everything. I was convinced that people were nothing more than highly evolved animals who invented religion to cope with the questions we could not answer. It was during this time of questioning that I began to read the Bible with an open mind and soon discovered that this book was not the invention of men. It was the work of God. Not only was I shown the truth about His existence but I was also shown that He is not silent, He has spoken to us through this most wonderful book. I decided to spend more time studying it for myself.
I enrolled for a two year Bible College course at the Sydney Missionary and Bible College. I spent a further four years studying it at the Baptist Theological College as I worked towards a degree in Theology and ordination as a Baptist minister. Since then I have spent the last fifteen years teaching people about the Bible as I have worked in various Baptist churches in Pambula, Muswellbrook, and Parkes.
I am currenlty living in Canberra working with a team of people at the Woden Valley Bible Church.
What began as an open minded exploration of a book has become
a
lifelong passion and preoccupation. I want to understand this book and
to share its message with others.
As I studied the Bible I began to realise that its chief subject is a person, the most significant person who has ever lived, Jesus. He is the main topic of this book. From beginning to end the Bible either prepares for His arrival at Bethelhem, explains His life, death, and resurrection, or explores how we can follow His example and obey His commands.
The Bible teaches us that Jesus is fully man. He understands what it means to live in a world of pain, suffering, and death. He knows what it feels like to be tired and hungry. He knows what it means to be overjoyed as well as overwhelmed with sadness.
The Bible teaches us that Jesus is fully God. The universe was created by Him and for Him. He is the supreme Lord over all creation. As God we owe Him our complete love and obedience.
The Bible also teaches us that through His death on the cross Jesus achieved the forgiveness of sins with the promise of an intimate and eternal relationship with God. This is new relationship is a gift given to all those who turn away from their sins and turn instead to Jesus with a trusting and humble obedience and love.
